Hanging on means losing

If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.

Luke 9:24 NLT

Hanging on to life causes losing.

And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but are yourself lost or destroyed?

Luke 9:25 NLT

So what is the reward for "gaining the world"? Because in the end, you are "lost" or even "destroyed?"

If anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person when he returns in his glory and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels.

Luke 9:26 NLT

The Lord does not want followers who fear speaking His name or praising Him in the storm. The Son of Man will be ashamed. He will not be able to look at the person. It makes sense, "if anyone is ashamed of me and my message, the Son of Man will be ashamed of that person." He will not be willing to call on that person to give the eternal blueprint of heavenly pursuit. Upon his glorious return, and with his father and the angels, Jesus will not look upon that fearful person.

I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Kingdom of God.

Luke 9:27 NLT

As a warning, Jesus suggests that some of the crowd will have sudden deaths... And experience no time to consider God's gift.

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me."

Luke 9:23 NLT

To the crowd, Jesus identified the path they must take: total submission. The only way: "take up your cross daily, and follow" him.
